To separate an assortment of benzoic acid and a neutral substance (triphenylmethanol or 1, 2, 4, 5-tetrachlorobenzene) into its pieces by removal and also to get the melting level.
Extraction is a procedure for transferring a solute from one solvent to a different. In this experiment, a mixture of benzoic acid and a neutral compound (triphenylmethanol or you, 2, four, 5-tetrachlorobenzene) into its components by extraction. The mixture can be dissolved in diethyl ether (common identity is ether). Both components are soluble in this solvent. Then a 1 M NaOH solution is used to draw out the benzoic acid in the form of its water-disolvable salt, sodium benzoate (three extractions to make sure complete removal), leaving the neutral mixture in the azure layer. The three aqueous ingredients are combined and the two components will be recovered since follow: 1 . The simple compound by washing, blow drying and evaporating the azure layer. 2 . Benzoic acid solution by acidifying the aqueous layer to form benzoic acidity, which precipitates. The benzoic acid is then recovered by simply filtration, cleaned and dried.
