In his poem " Sympathy, ” Paul Laurence Dunbar develops the selfishness of a caged bird to keep humanistic comprehension of what captivity truly really does to a person. Dunbar induces sympathetic emotions and calls for his readers understand his emotions through the use of the selfishness. Dunbar backs his thoughts with vibrant images while addressing slavery as the clear evil that constrains African People in the usa of their man rights. In stanza one, Dunbar contrasts the image of the caged parrot to beautiful images of nature in its maximum harmony. A bird, which is meant to be a symbol of liberty and out of control ability, is definitely attached by simply an steadfast cage.
